Exit polls for Poland’s legislative elections this Sunday give victory to the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party and a parliamentary majority to opposition parties.
After the polls closed at 21:00 local time (20:00 in Lisbon), forecasts attributed 36.8% of the vote to the PiS party, led by historical leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, and 31.6% to the Civic Platform (PO) coalition. , headed by a former prime minister. European Council President Donald Tusk has already declared victory.
Polls show the new parties Terceira Via (conservatives) and Leftica (leftists) gaining 13% and 8.6%, meaning the opposition has a majority in parliament.

The leader of the Civic Platform (PO) appeared on national television demanding an alternative to the government after eight years of rule by the conservative populists from the PiS party.
“Poland won. Democracy has won. We removed them from power,” Donald Tusk told his supporters.
The winning party admitted difficulties in forming a government
The leader of the Law and Justice Party (PiS) admitted that the results of the legislative elections should not allow the formation of a government, despite winning the elections.
“This is our fourth victory in the parliamentary elections and the third in a row. This is a great success for our party and our project for Poland,” said Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
“The question remains whether this success will be reflected in our new government and we still don’t know, but we must have hope and know that whether we are in power or in opposition, we will defend this project in any way possible . we want,” said the historical leader of the populist conservatives, adding that their party will not allow “the betrayal of Poland and the loss of Poland’s most valuable thing in the nation – its independence.”
