Automatic driver’s license renewals are available starting this Monday through the Id.gov mobile app and are currently limited to drivers under 50, Secretary of State Mario Campolargo told Lusa.
The automatic driver’s license renewal service “is an innovative solution included in the Recovery and Resiliency Plan.” [PRR] and in the Simplex program, which is the result of a partnership between AMA – the Administrative Modernization Agency and IMT – the Institute of Mobility and Transport, with the goal of simplifying, automating and enhancing proximity between citizens and government services through administrative modernization,” says the Office of the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Administration modernization.
“Portuguese citizens already benefit from an information system that reminds them via SMS that they need to renew their driving license and that these citizens can renew their license through IMT,” he reminded the ruler.
“We have been doing this for some time, today more than 280 thousand people have already renewed their driving license using digital processes and the Internet. Today we are discovering that from our digital wallet, where we have our driver’s license digitized, we can also be prevented from receiving a notification that will automatically allow us to renew the license in an easier way,” explained Mario Campolargo.
The digital wallet is ID.gov, an application where any citizen can obtain a citizen card, driver’s license and other documents, both government and private.
“This is a repository where all the cards relevant to our lives are stored digitally on our phone,” summed up Mario Campolargo.
“Having a driver’s license and knowing today through a notification on our mobile phone that we need to renew it, the system is very simple: we click on this notification and the system will automatically take all the relevant data, they will fill in all the necessary information and generate a driver’s license, which will then appear digitally again on our already digitized citizen card and then reach us at home through traditional means,” he explained.
Thanks to this measure, the digital wallet now has “interaction” with the citizen.
The ID.gov app and Digital Mobile Key (CMD) “are two pillars” of the government’s relationship with citizens and “should be more widely adopted,” he said, because the combination of the two allows for automated license renewals.
“The data that the state administration has about us allows us to independently fill out the forms required for renewal, and by simply clicking on this notification we can renew our license,” he noted.
The service will initially target around 6,000 drivers per month under the age of 50 without the need to provide a medical certificate with a Category B driving license undergoing a re-test period.
Mario Campolargo estimates that by March there will be 13,000 drivers under the age of 50 with an Automatic Renewal Notified (RACC) Class B license who have the ID.gov application and CMD.
Campolargo called for “more drivers to use this digital document card.”
The official said the next step would be to “continue” efforts to ensure that people over 50 who need to renew their license with a medical certificate can request the latter automatically, continuing their commitment to the digital service. citizens.
For citizens who do not have the ID.gov app, last November the IMT developed a notification service for drivers that alerts them to the need to re-verify their driver’s license. Until this Monday, more than 280 thousand drivers were notified, with 75% having already updated their documents through IMT Online or at the counter.
