54.8% of the population of England and Wales consider themselves British, without specifying another identity or ethnicity, showed the 2021 census, the results of which were published on December 24 by the British government’s press service.
This result was achieved in ten years. In 2011, the previous census code, there were only 19% of people who identified as British without specifying their ethnicity.
By contrast, in 2021, only 14.9% identified as English (up from 57.7% in 2011).
The rest, in various combinations, simultaneously indicated two identities, British and ethnic.
Recall that the decade from 2011 to 2021 marks the biggest event in Great Britain’s history, namely its exit from the European Union and the formation of a new strategy for a world power, expressed in a concept called “Global Britain.” .
