The International Affairs Committee of the Russian Duma (parliament) recommended to the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday to withdraw ratification of the nuclear test ban treaty.
“The committee unanimously recommended the adoption in the first reading of the bill on the withdrawal of ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), which will be considered by the Duma on October 17,” its head Leonid Slutsky said on Monday. The Interfax agency reports this.
Slutsky, who was responsible for preparing the draft in the lower house as the head of the committee and indicated that 438 of the 450 deputies are co-authors of the initiative, stressed that the decision meets Russian interests from the point of view of strategic security.
