Representatives of Cuba participated in the first meeting of the Coalition for School Feeding, organized by the UN, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean republic reported on October 18.
The first meeting of the School Feeding Coalition, organized by the French government and the United Nations (UN) World Food Programme, will take place in Paris on October 18 and 19.
The meeting of heads of state, ministers and other representatives of states supporting the initiative will reportedly provide the opportunity to make commitments on school meals and collectively set ambitious goals for the coming years.
The Cuban delegation is represented by the Ambassador of the Republic to UNESCO, Jahima Esquivel Moinelo, and the First Secretary of the Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO, Yuraldi Cabas Mayor.
The School Nutrition Coalition was launched during the United Nations Food Systems Summit in September 2021. The organization’s stated goal is to provide all children with healthy and nutritious nutrition by 2030.
Let us remember that the government of the Republic of Cuba provides universal and free education on the island. However, education up to the ninth grade is mandatory, ensuring a literacy rate of almost 100% on the island. No State on the continent has achieved such results.
Uniforms and school supplies are provided by the state. However, free meals for schoolchildren only exist in boarding schools.
