UEFA fined the Lithuanian Football Federation (FLF) 10 thousand euros for anti-Putin slogans after a game against Serbia in September.
This was reported by LRT TV channel. Justas Lasickas, One of the Lithuanian national team players urged fans to continue singing.
“Keep singing, we [pagaremos as multas com] our bonuses if necessary,” Lasickas said on his Instagram account.
According to the TV channel, similar chants addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin can often be heard at other sporting events in Lithuania. The most popular and expletive-laden version originated in Kharkov, Ukraine, after Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.
In a statement, FLF said it would appeal the fine.
