A 25-year-old man of Spanish nationality, who was stabbed in the shoulder by a colleague at a guesthouse in Amares on October 13, was arrested by the PNP last Thursday for being a fugitive.
The attack occurred when the Spaniard was at odds with a Brazilian colleague over a domestic dispute. He was taken to Braga hospital.
According to the GNR statement, while already in the hospital ward and having discovered difficulties in obtaining the victim’s identity card – since he was undocumented and given the nervousness shown by the young man – steps were taken with the Guardia Civil to establish his identity.
It was after these investigations that it was discovered that an arrest warrant was pending to serve an effective prison sentence for negligent homicide. There was also a “Schengen order for his detention and extradition to face trial in Spain.” Present at the Guimarães Court of Appeal, he was taken to Porto prison, where he will await the completion of the extradition process.
