The baby survives with the mother’s organ after birth without kidneys and has a less than 1% chance of survival.

A girl born without two organs and with less than a 1% chance of survival received a kidney from her mother and is now healthy.

Emmy Hope Mahoney, two, was born in March 2021 and her mother Andie Mahoney was soon told her daughter would not survive.

Andy Mahoney, a resident of the US state of Florida, had a healthy pregnancy until 20 weeks. In November 2020, an ultrasound showed that my daughter had bilateral renal agenesis, a kidney abnormality that prevents the kidneys from developing. The mother, having learned about her daughter’s illness, turned to a specialist, and she was accompanied by doctor Ruben Quintero from the Miami Fetal Institute.

“The reason it is impossible to survive this disease is that the child does not have fluid. Since he does not have kidneys to urinate, he does not swallow fluids as he should,” explained Ruben Quintero, quoted Daily mail.

While Andy was pregnant with Emmy, she had to be given intravenous fluids for ten weeks.

“I always went to Miami to support the Emmys. My baby needs fluids to breathe,” the mother told USA Today.

A few minutes after birth, the baby was given oxygen and taken straight to the operating room.

“I was able to meet her only after she had surgery. I didn’t know if she would survive. There was a lot of waiting and praying,” said the mother, who also said her daughter had to stay in the hospital. underwent treatment for six months to help the newborn’s body eliminate excess fluid and thus survive until she could receive a kidney.

On July 25, 2023, Emmy received the transplant from her mother, who, when she realized she was compatible, said she received the best news of her life.

“I didn’t think long. I knew that I was giving my kidney to Emmy,” the mother concluded.
