“There is evil that comes with good” and that’s exactly how Porto felt with their 4-1 Champions League win over Antwerp on Wednesday night.
Evanilson was not part of Sérgio Conceição’s original plans for the eleven, but he came on as a substitute for the injured Wendell and scored three goals in the match to turn things around.
The Brazilian’s injury in the 44th minute was the Dragons’ second setback in the first half after the Blues and Whites conceded the opener through Nigerian Alhassan Yusuf in the 37th minute.
The Belgian player shot isolated in the penalty area and left Diogo Costa no chance to defend the Dragons’ goal.
The conversation in the dressing room at half-time had an immediate impact on Porto, who managed to score in the 46th minute after just a few seconds of play. it will be a formidable night for the 24-year-old striker.
The Dragons turned things around soon after through Portuguese-Canadian Steven Eustaquio in the 54th minute, but Sergio Conceição’s side kept their foot on the gas and gave the visiting Belgium fans even more to cheer about.
The evening was inspired by Brazilian Evanilson, who scored the second goal in the 69th minute with a powerful strike from compatriot Pepe.
With the best saved for last, Evanilson still managed to tip his hat to French goalkeeper Jean Butez to close the scoring six minutes from time in the 90th.
With this result, the Dragons strengthen their chances of continuing the race. Porto, who will face the Belgians again in their next match, has six points. Leading with nine points, Barcelona took on and beat the Ukrainian Shakhtar, which had three points. Antwerp are the only team in Group H with a clean sheet.
Pepe also made history in this match, becoming the oldest outfield player to play in a Champions League match.
