A 72-year-old taxi driver was detained by Lisbon PSP after charging three times what a “race” between the airport and the Parc des Nations should have cost. This was believed to be the tenth time since 2018 that the man had been caught for the same crime. By the time of his arrest, he had already committed a new crime.
The latest arrest occurred on Friday the 20th, when PSP officers spotted five tourists getting out of a taxi near the Gar do Oriente train station and arguing with the driver. Agents found out that the taxi driver charged 18.85 euros for the “trip,” which should have cost a third of that amount, 6.50 euros. When the police tried to check the taximeter, the driver had already entered a new fare of 3.85 euros for another service, which costs 80 cents. He was arrested and his taxi was confiscated.
