Several Malaysian MPs have expressed fears that the government’s Palestinian Solidarity Week will teach students elements of hatred and violence. The Malay Mail quotes a statement by a group of three parliamentarians on October 28.
“We understand the Department of Education’s desire to instill important values and principles in our students, but we believe it will be difficult for the department to effectively monitor the Palestinian Solidarity program to ensure that it achieves its goals without unintentionally inciting resentment and violence. .”the joint statement says.
Their reaction followed photographs widely circulated online showing young children and teachers carrying replica firearms and wearing the red, black, white and green colors associated with Palestine, which is under siege amid an escalating conflict with Israel in the Middle East.
Previously, the ministry said that Palestinian Solidarity Week will be held in all educational institutions of the ministry from October 29 to November 3.
