Colombian authorities suspect that the criminals who kidnapped Luis Diaz’s father (his mother has already been rescued) are trying to take him to Venezuela, an area where the border between the two countries is poorly controlled. This was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Luis Fernando Velasco, who assured that the police forces on the ground are on alert.
“Yesterday afternoon we received a call, we contacted the police, and the police commander himself, General Salamanca, went to the area, where we eventually secured the release of the mother. The idea is to shut down the area and prevent them from taking the father. Luis Diaz to Venezuela, this is the first hypothesis. I ask citizens to report if they know anything,” the minister said, as quoted by Semana magazine.
One of the authorities’ current concerns is identifying the criminal organization behind the kidnapping. So far, no one has come forward to report the incident, and police suspect it could be a common crime.
The police have already offered a reward of 200 million Colombian pesos (about 45 thousand euros) to anyone who provides information about the kidnappers.
