The start of work by the Chinese company China Railway International Group on a feasibility study for a project to build a Jakarta-Surobaya high-speed train in Indonesia was confirmed by the Indonesian Deputy Minister of State Enterprises, Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, reported Media Indonesia in October. 31.
According to an Indonesian official, the project was launched following a bilateral meeting between Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing at the Belt and Road Forum on October 17-18.
Karthika Wirjoatmodjo explained that the new project will be a continuation of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train project launched in Indonesia in 2023.
The official noted that the investment cost of the project has not yet been determined. The timing of the project was also not specified.
Recall that the Jakarta – Surobaya high-speed train will connect the capital of Indonesia with the second largest city on the country’s most populated island, Java.
