Egypt opens its doors to foreigners and wounded for the first time since the conflict in the Gaza Strip began

For the first time since the conflict in the Gaza Strip began on October 7, civilians began leaving the region this Wednesday, across the border with Egypt in Rafah. The first to arrive in the safe area were foreign citizens with dual citizenship, mostly children, women and elderly people, about 500 people in total.

According to Al Jazeera, civilians with Austrian, Japanese, Bulgarian, Indonesian, Italian, Greek, Australian, Czech and Jordanian passports, as well as about 90 wounded Palestinians, were allowed through.

The entry into Egypt of those who managed to escape Israeli bombing of the Palestinian territory in the north, after repeated calls by those in charge of the Israeli military to head to the south of the Gaza Strip, was welcomed by many people who, holding Egyptian flags, expressed their solidarity with the Palestinian people.

The humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is of great concern to the international community, and fears remain that the armed conflict could spread to other countries. Concerns that led the heads of Turkish and Iranian diplomacy this Wednesday to propose holding an international conference as soon as possible to avoid a regional war, and to return US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to Israel tomorrow.

New attack on refugee camp
The Jabaliya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip was bombed for the second time in less than 24 hours after the first attack killed more than 50 people and injured hundreds. Israeli forces attacked again, causing “numerous casualties,” Al Jazeera reported. Those who managed to escape unharmed are desperately searching for survivors among the rubble. It was one of the latest attacks by Israel, which says it has hit more than 11,000 targets in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war sparked by the Hamas attack. During the first attack on the Jabaliya camp, seven hostages were killed, three of whom had foreign passports. Hamas accuses Israel of “not being concerned about the safety of prisoners in the Gaza Strip during indiscriminate bombings” and of committing massacres to cover up failures. One of the group’s leaders warns that there will be no stability in the region unless the Palestinians gain independence. In turn, the Israeli Prime Minister promised this Wednesday that the country will win the war, despite the “painful losses” of Israeli soldiers in the conflict. “We are fighting a war that is difficult and will be long. I promise the citizens of Israel that we will do our job and continue until victory,” said Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israeli army says 15 soldiers have been killed since Tuesday, when ground operations in the Gaza Strip intensified.
