Official Palestinian television reported that one of its correspondents in the Gaza Strip was killed this Thursday evening in an Israeli attack on his apartment.
“Colleague Mohammad Abu Khatab was killed along with members of his family in an Israeli bombing of his home in Khan Younes (south),” Palestinian television reported.
Medical sources at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younes, where the bodies were transferred, told France-Presse (AFP) that eleven people were killed in the attack.
In his last direct speech, shortly before his death, 52-year-old Mohammad Abu Khatab noted on the 27th day of the war between Israel and Hamas that “morgues full of martyrs and bodies are still being found among the rubble.”
At least 27 Palestinian journalists have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war, according to the Union of Palestinian Journalists.
There is a war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007, sparked by an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israeli territory on October 7.
The attack killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took more than 200 hostages, prompting an Israeli army response with daily bombings in the north of this impoverished Palestinian enclave controlled by Hamas, classified by the United States as a terrorist organization. The Union of Europe and Israel, which, according to local authorities, have already claimed 9,061 lives, including 3,760 children.
