The Portuguese managed to pass under the gate of the One Police Plaza garage and enter the Joint Operations Center of the New York Police Department, USA.
Jose Luis Soares, 65, entered the building and went through several security checkpoints with officers until he was able to reach the roof of the building, according to a police report. New York Post. The incident occurred on October 28.
The building has two garage entrances that can be accessed from the street but are guarded by police. Once inside, the Portuguese managed to pass through a staff-only door and reach the roof of the second floor of the 14-story building.
Soares’ first stop was the Joint Operations Center on the second floor, where police officers monitor surveillance cameras throughout the city.
“This has to be one of the safest buildings in the city,” said a Manhattan, New York, police officer. “It just shows the incompetence of some of the people we employ. What a failure.”
Soares, who is not a U.S. citizen, received two counts of criminal trespass and was ordered to complete the alternative sentencing program by Jan. 8, 2024.
