Ten areas of mainland Portugal are under an orange warning this evening, the second-most severe on a scale of four, due to heavy seas, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said.
The warning, valid from 19:35 this Sunday until early Monday morning, covers the areas of Porto, Faro, Setubal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga.
According to IPMA, waves in the coastal strip can reach a maximum height of 12 to 13 meters.
The orange warning remains in effect until 00:00 Monday in Faro, Setubal and Beja and until 3:00 the same day in Viana do Castelo, Porto, Lisbon, Leiria, Coimbra, Braga and Aveiro.
On Monday, from these hours, the forecast for seas in the same areas will drop to four to five meters, meaning the sea warning will drop to yellow, the third most severe, and will remain in effect until 12:00 that day in Faro. Setubal and Beja and until 18:00 in the remaining seven districts.
