The Open House Palma architecture festival has begun in the Spanish city of Palma de Mallorca, as reported on the festival website on November 6.
Founded by the Roman Empire in 123 AD, Palma de Mallorca has experienced a host of different cultural influences throughout its history. The city is a fusion of Roman, Arabic, Catalan, medieval, Renaissance, baroque, modernist and contemporary architecture.
For the first time in the city’s history, more than 80 buildings and architectural complexes were opened to the public, most of which are usually closed. The festival includes conferences, seminars, competitions and excursions with the participation of hundreds of passionate volunteers.
The Open House Palma festival is organized by a local non-profit organization founded with the aim of promoting and disseminating the city’s architectural heritage. The festival program is part of the international Open House World Wide movement.
