Portuguese businessman Luis Estiveira, convicted in the Algarve for fraud and on the run, has been detained in Brazil. According to CM As it turned out, a 58-year-old man was detained by federal police in a restaurant in the city of João Pessoa. He had an international arrest warrant and was wanted by Interpol.
Luis Estiveira was a gas station concessionaire in the Algarve and was sentenced in Portimão to seven years in prison for nine offenses of aggravated forgery. According to the court, he used false bank guarantees to purchase fuel from oil companies on consignment terms. He had also already been convicted of the same crimes in Faro. The scheme, which existed in 2010 and 2011, was dismantled by the joint venture in 2014. The businessman will be presented to Brazilian authorities for extradition to Portugal.
