The ECB is awaiting an assessment by the Bank of Portugal’s ethics committee on the conduct of governor Mario Centeno after the prime minister put his name forward to replace him.
“Ethics Committee of the European Central Bank [BCE] will be informed of the results of the assessment by the Ethics Committee of the Bank of Portugal,” an official source at the Frankfurt institution responded to Lusa.
This Monday afternoon, the ethics committee of Banco de Portugal meets to assess a possible conflict of interest after the current Prime Minister proposed to Governor Mario Centeno to replace him in this post. It is not yet known whether the commission chaired by Rui Vilar will speak publicly on this topic.
