The main meeting moved to the Pavilhão Dragao Arena and began at 22:30 due to the turnout of participants exceeding the capacity of the originally selected hall. During the discussion, it was interrupted due to violent clashes between those present.
Villas-Boas harshly criticized
Before the start, Andre Villas-Boas said at the Dragao stadium that there were no conditions for holding a general meeting and asked to postpone it.
“Unfortunately, there are no conditions for any decision to be made at this General Assembly, therefore I ask the President of the Board to reconsider the decision to suspend this Extraordinary General Assembly and reschedule it at a suitable place and time so that all members of FC Porto can vote freely on the proposal to change the charter,” he said.
After the meeting ended early, the former Dragons coach reacted to the clashes and spoke about “one of the darkest days in Porto’s history.”
“Without shame, without remorse, without any respect for the members of this great Club. FC Porto needs to find its principles, values and foundations. What happened will never happen again,” he wrote on social networks.
Losing candidates present
In the queues were Jose Fernando Rio and Nuno Lobo, candidates defeated by Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa in the club’s last elections in 2020, with the businessman promising that he would demand the impeachment of the emergency attorney general.
“Unfortunately, I learned that the general meeting started with all these people here. I don’t have words to describe the situation. What they are doing to FC Porto’s partners is a disgrace. They changed their location without warning and founded a general assembly without showing respect. for the last member to enter the room. This is unfortunate. I don’t see myself in the direction the club is moving,” Nuno Lobo shared with reporters as he left Dragao.
