Biden calls Xi Jinping a ‘dictator’ after agreeing to keep communication channels open

The North American president on Wednesday welcomed the opportunity to speak to his Chinese counterpart “directly and immediately” in the event of a crisis, even though he viewed Xi Jinping as a “dictator.”

According to Reuters, Biden held a solo news conference after four hours of talks with Xi Jinping on the outskirts of San Francisco. At the end of the press conference, he was asked if he still considered Xi Jinping to be a dictator, as he said in June.

“Look, it’s like that. He is a dictator in the sense that he is a man who runs a country that is a communist country based on a completely different form of government than ours,” Biden said.

At the end of a meeting between the two in California, Joe Biden said the two leaders agreed to “keep the lines of communication open.”

“We agreed that each of us can pick up the phone, call directly and be heard immediately,” Biden emphasized at a press conference following the meeting.

North American President Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping also agreed on Wednesday to restore some military communications between the two militaries at a meeting in San Francisco.

Both sides vowed to work together to move the United States and China closer to returning to regular talks under the so-called Naval Consultative Agreement, which until 2020 was used to improve air and maritime security.

Following the meeting, Biden considered that the meeting with Xi led to “important progress,” the US President said in a message published on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The presidents also reached an agreement to stop the illicit production of fentanyl, an opioid that kills about 200 Americans every day. Joe Biden and Xi Jinping have reached an agreement that the Chinese government will control the exit of chemicals that Mexican drug cartels use to make fentanyl and sell it illegally in the United States, a North American official told reporters at the end of the meeting. than a four-hour meeting between the two leaders.
