Brazilian international Vinicius Junior suffered a torn biceps femoris muscle in his left leg affecting the disc tendon and will be out for the rest of the year, between eight and 10 weeks, for Real Madrid.
“Following an examination carried out by the Real Madrid clinical services, our player Vinicius Junior was diagnosed with a rupture of the biceps femoris muscle, affecting the tendon of the disc of the left leg. The situation expects further development,” the club said in a statement.
The 23-year-old Brazilian striker was released from the Canarinha squad after suffering an injury in Thursday night’s CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier against Colombia in Barranquilla.
Vinicius had to be substituted in the 27th minute of the game, which Brazil lost 2–1.
The striker is absent from the Merengue squad while Real Madrid are two points behind leaders Girona in the Spanish league and lead Champions League Group C with qualification guaranteed.
The Spaniards top the group with 12 points, followed by Napoli with seven, Sporting Braga, whom they beat in both games, with three points and Union Berlin with one.
