The drought has ended “virtually throughout” mainland Portugal, with only a few places in the inland south region experiencing mild drought, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) December Climate Update, released this Friday. .
According to the bulletin, there was a “significant reduction in the situation of meteorological drought ending in almost the entire territory” of the mainland, where on December 31 it was only 6.5% dry, but weak, corresponding to “some places in the interior of the South.”
The IPMA climate report, which is published monthly and covers only the Portuguese mainland, says last December was “very rainy and very hot”, the hottest in 92 years.
