The National Union of Teachers of Angola (Unprof) called for protest marches across the country on Wednesday to protest acts of aggression carried out in some cases by students and in others by guardians.
In President Sinprof’s address to the provincial secretariats, the date chosen for the protests was November 22, dedicated to the teacher in Angola.
Speaking to Lusa, the provincial secretary of Sinprofa in Luanda, Fernando Laureano, said that in the Angolan capital the event will take place on Saturday in accordance with the law on assemblies and demonstrations, stressing that the concern is higher in Luanda.
Fernando Laureano reported that such acts are taking shape and are observed in almost all schools in the province of Luanda.
“If it is not the guardians, then the students, and sometimes even the school management itself, in psychological terms this is not physical aggression, but psychological,” he said.
According to Fernando Laureano, this year two cases of aggression that came to the attention of Sinprof were brought to court.
“There were more cases that were not solved, which through our intervention we were able to resolve,” the official said, stressing that the purpose of the march was to discourage such acts.
The secretary of the Sinprofa of Luanda province said the most recent case involved a teacher from a school in the center of Kilamba, who was attacked by guardians after the student was reprimanded.
“This teacher was attacked by her guardians, she was even stripped naked, the case went to court, she took advantage of our help, and fortunately the court ruled in favor of the teacher,” Fernando Laureano emphasized, saying that they also have “a series of lawsuits claims.” which is associated with conflicts between school management and teachers.”
