Malian and Russian authorities signed an agreement to build a gold processing plant near Bamako, Reuters reports on November 22.

According to the Minister of Economy of Mali, Aluseni Sanou, the agreement provides for the construction of a plant with a processing capacity of up to 200 tons per year.
If built, it will be the West African country’s largest gold refinery, the news agency notes.
“This will allow us not only to control all gold production, but also to be able to correctly apply all taxes and tariffs”Sanu said in an interview with state television.
The economy minister said he had also signed an agreement with a Russian company to build a 200- to 300-megawatt solar power plant by mid-2025.
Let us remember that in October of this year a memorandum of cooperation in the nuclear field was signed between the Malian authorities and the Rosatom company, which provided for the exploration of mineral resources and the use of atoms for peaceful purposes.
Commercial gold production in Mali amounted to 66.2 tonnes last year, mainly from mines owned by Barrick Gold (ABX.B), B2Gold (BTO.V), Resolute Mining (RSG.Axe), Allied Gold (AAUC. TO) and Endeavor Mining.
