Three times this fall, Moscow sent proposals to Yerevan to negotiate a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but the Armenian side is looking to the West, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on the 22nd. of November.
“In September, October and November, the Armenian side received proposals to hold negotiations both in Moscow and within the framework of multilateral events, to which we have not yet received clear answers.”– said Zakharova.
Thus, he commented on the statement by the Secretary of the Armenian Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, that he allegedly did not know about Moscow’s proposals for a peace treaty between Yerevan and Baku.
“How can it be unknown if I have already given the facts?”– the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed bewilderment.
He noted that the Armenian authorities are at the same time trying to organize negotiations in Washington and Brussels, “Although neither the United States nor the European Union can be considered good faith intermediaries for several reasons.”said the diplomat.
Zakharova indicated that the main objective of the West in the region is to expel Russia from Transcaucasia. “They want to destroy the existing security mechanisms in the region and at the same time shamelessly steal and distort the trilateral agreements reached with the participation of Moscow.”she added.
According to her, it should be obvious to everyone by now that Yerevan’s reckless bid for Western aid was a fiasco.
