The FBI is investigating a car bombing on the Rainbow Bridge, which connects the United States with Canada, near Niagara Falls.
Two people in the car that exploded were killed and a border guard was injured, Fox said.
It was initially claimed that authorities were investigating the possibility of a terrorist attack, but this hypothesis was rejected and all indications are that it was a tragic accident.
According to a preliminary assessment, the incident was caused by a careless driver, whose actions led to an accident and fire, according to sources familiar with the situation, quoted by Reuters.
Following the incident, the border between the two countries was closed, as were four other border posts in western New York, which includes the Niagara Falls region.
