The high competition that the participants in the race of the first stage of the Russian Cup present to the country’s strongest skier, Alexander Bolshunov, was stated by the athletes’ coach, Yuri Borodavko, on November 23 in a comment to RIA Novosti.
“The competition was high. Not that (Bolshunov’s) victory was a one-size-fits-all affair. Everything continues as usual, we focus on current results. It’s hard to say what the race would have been like if not for Alexander’s recent injury. Maybe there wouldn’t be such a level of competition, but I wouldn’t want to speak in the subjunctive mood.””Borodavko noted.
According to the coach, Bolshunov’s recovery from his injury is progressing quite quickly, but a final decision on the athlete’s participation in the remaining races of the first stage has not yet been made.
It should be noted that on November 23, in the time trial speed skating race of the first stage of the Russian Cup, Bolshunov set the best time, 6.3 seconds ahead of Artem Maltsev, who came second.
Recall that from November 23 to 26, the starts of the first stage of the Russian Cup of cross-country skiing will take place on the slopes of the ski complex in the village of Vershina Tei (Khakassia).
