This Wednesday, the United Nations welcomed the repatriation by Spain of Spanish women and minors associated with the Islamic State terrorist group who were held in prison camps in Syria and called on all countries to be held accountable in these cases.
“We have reached out to the international community, especially Western countries that have citizens [nos campos de prisioneiros sírios]especially when it is women and children, do everything possible to repatriate them,” said UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric during a press conference at the organization’s headquarters in New York.
Dujarric stressed that the conditions in these POW camps, which are home to families of Islamic State fighters, mostly women and minors, are “almost inhuman” and “extremely difficult.”
