The results of the women’s individual tournament of the international competition “The St. Petersburg Rapier” were summed up on November 24, the press service of the Russian Fencing Federation reported.
The champion of the competition was Polina Volobueva from Kursk. In the semi-finals she narrowly beat Anna Solovyova (Odintsovo) by 15:14. But the fight for first place with Moscow’s Svetlana Tripapina, an international master of the sport, took place with an overwhelming advantage for Volobueva, which she won with 15: 7.
Third place was shared by Solovyova and Adelina Zagidullina, one of the four foil fencers who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics. In addition to her, two of her friends from the Olympic team competed in the tournament, Marta Martyanova and Larisa Korobeynikova, who took 6th and 15th place, respectively.
In total, almost 90 athletes participated in the competition. In addition to Russian fencers, guests from Belarus and Uzbekistan competed for medals at the tournament.
