Mara is a 24-year-old Palestinian who has spent the last eight years in prison in Israel. This Friday, following an agreement between the Israeli government and Hamas, she was released and her family was reunited.
The young woman told Reuters she was placed in solitary confinement after the Islamic group launched an attack on Israel on October 7. She later realized that she had been separated from her fellow inmates and would be released if an agreement was reached.
“When you have faith in God, you know that prison will never completely close a person,” he said.
Mara said she went through some very difficult times while in prison, especially because she missed her family.
“What affected me the most was that I didn’t know anything about my parents or my family. I often dreamed about them. Both good and bad dreams. I struggled a bit to interpret my dreams, but I had faith. to God, and I prayed a lot for them and read the Koran,” he explained.
After nearly two months of conflict, Israel and Hamas have reached an agreement to suspend hostilities and release hostages held by the Islamic group in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
This Friday, Israel released 39 Palestinian prisoners and Hamas released 24 hostages.
