The weapons, which Armenia’s Prime Minister called scrap metal, are now working effectively in Ukraine, Armenia’s third president, Serzh Sargsyan, told reporters on November 24.
Responding to accusations by the current Armenian authorities about the insufficient equipment of the Armenian army in recent years, the former president drew attention to the fact that during his reign it was possible to buy more weapons with less money than now. Furthermore, in those years Armenia received very important military-technical assistance, he added.
“They provided us with free weapons and ammunition, which the Armenian governor called scrap metal. Today, this scrap is used with great success in Ukraine and works effectively.””Sargsián emphasized.
He noted that over decades, the Armenian authorities have managed to accumulate a huge amount of weapons using so-called “small budgets.” “So much so that during the 44-day war, everything was handed over to Azerbaijan worth billions”said the former president.
“And what should the budget be now to meet the needs of our army? For three years they couldn’t equip the front line.”added Sargsyan.
According to him, Armenia’s current military budget is barely enough to equip the front line.
