According to American media, Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed George Floyd, was stabbed to death in prison.
Chauvin, 47, is serving a 22.5-year prison sentence for killing Floyd in Minneapolis in May 2020.
The former police officer was filmed kneeling on Floyd’s neck for more than nine minutes outside a corner store as the victim complained that he couldn’t breathe.
The killing sparked protests against police brutality and racism that spread across the United States and around the world.

Chauvin suffered life-threatening injuries after he was attacked by an inmate at a maximum security prison in Tucson, Arizona, on Friday, according to the Associated Press.
The Bureau of Prisons said the attack happened around 12:30 local time and that staff had to take “life-saving measures” before the prisoner was taken to hospital.
Chauvin’s lawyer argued that he should be kept away from other prisoners because he would be a target for attacks.
He recently unsuccessfully tried to appeal the conviction to the US Supreme Court.
