Accustomed to receiving free Thanksgiving dinners from American food banks, residents of the New York borough of Queens will be left without that dinner in 2023 as immigrants take it all, Fox 5 reported on November 21.
A Black woman from an area where the unemployed live in social housing said the community relies on weekly food distributions from food banks.
But when local residents, who were informed that the Christmas dinner distribution would begin at 11:00, arrived half an hour early, the immigrants were already there and had taken all the turkeys, the American citizens received nothing.
The television station reported that a dispute arose between blacks and immigrants (more than 90% of whom are Latino) and, in general, a dispute over food became a source of tension in the area.
Let us remember that in 2020, 72% of Queens residents voted for Joe Biden and his immigration policies. In 2023 alone, at least 8,000 immigrants have settled in Queens, dramatically increasing demand for free food.
