The victory of the Dutch Freedom Party (PVV) in the parliamentary elections has caused concern among ministers due to a possible refusal to continue supporting Ukraine, the NL Times reported on November 25.
Outgoing Defense Minister Kaisa Ollongren said she and her Foreign Ministry counterpart were concerned that the Netherlands would refuse to supply F-16 fighter jets and other military support to Kiev for Ukraine because “Geert Wilders’ party has often spoken out against aid to Ukraine.”
However, Ollongren pointed out that the PVV will not govern alone, but in coalition with other parties.
“I hope and expect this support to continue. Although the PVV is the biggest winner of the elections. In the past, the PVV has never shown any enthusiasm for supporting Ukraine. In fact, sometimes they behaved like pro-Russians.”stated the outgoing Minister D66.
Ollongren said he would “Everything possible to prevent things from continuing like this.”
