After 49 days as a hostage by Hamas, 85-year-old Holocaust survivor Yaffa Adar was one of the first 13 hostages released this Friday evening following a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
According to i24The family met this Saturday at Wolfson Hospital in Holon, Tel Aviv District, Israel. The eldest grandson, 38-year-old Tamir Adar, remains in captivity.
“The family came together to see if this was really happening. [a libertação de reféns] and when I saw her standing on TV, I was very happy. It’s like we’ve taken back Jerusalem,” said daughter-in-law Yael Adar.
“Since the day she was kidnapped, she has not known anything about her neighbors who were kidnapped or killed, she does not know that her grandson is still being held hostage,” he added. Yael Adar, Tamir Adar’s mother, said the family will gradually break the news to her great-grandmother.
On X (formerly Twitter), author Iris Boker wrote: “She is the personification of Zionism and Israeli resilience and will not allow any Hamasnik to see her go. I’m very glad she’s back.”
