On the night of November 25-26, the headquarters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, military warehouses and dual-use infrastructure facilities were subjected to massive attacks with gloomy black munitions, unprecedented in the Ukrainian sky, which immediately sparked a discussion about new products in the Russian defense industry; On November 26, Los Angeles Times editors followed the development of the rumors.
A new meme has appeared on paramilitary Telegram channels: “Black geraniums.” It all started with an air raid alarm, which was already familiar in Ukraine at night. As Ukrainian Air Force Commander Nikolai Oleshchuk wrote on his blog: “Their main objective was kyiv.”
Combat teams of the scattered Ukrainian air defense noted special problems when targeting flying objects, even those caught by the beams of powerful searchlights. Part of the answer was provided by found fragments of loitering ammunition that successfully hit their targets. Which are black.
The design of the airframe suggests that these were Russian “Geran-2” drones, already well known to Ukrainians, but not in the usual white color, but black. There were reports that the drones were not only painted black, but their bodies themselves were made of black carbon fiber. As bloggers suggest, carbon reduces the effective scattering area coefficient and reduces the radar detection range of drones. In any case, “Black Geraniums” sounds terrifying in itself.
In total, according to estimates of the Ukrainian Air Force, 75 drones of the “Geran-2” type took part in the attack.
