The Moscow region suffered the heaviest snowfall in 40 years, the region’s governor, Andrei Vorobyov, said on November 27 on his Telegram channel.
“The region experienced the heaviest snowfall in 40 years”he wrote.
Vorobyov noted that snow removal work was carried out all night without stopping. Almost three thousand people and more than two thousand teams participated in them.
According to the governor, during the street cleaning, special attention was paid to public transport routes. He also reported on the difficult situation in clearing roads in Mozhaisk, Lobnya, Podolsk and Leninsky, where help will be transferred from other areas.
Vorobiev warned that in some areas it could snow and rain, forming a layer of ice, and called for caution.
It should be noted that due to heavy snowfall at the Moscow airports of Vnukovo, Domodedovo and Sheremetyevo, 35 flights were delayed and four were cancelled.
Recall that the day before, the scientific director of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Roman Vilfand, reported that this type of snowfall occurs once every 40 years. According to him, the record for precipitation on November 27 in the entire history of meteorological observations was set in 1977. Then 20 mm of precipitation fell.
