Malaysian authorities will require airlines to provide return tickets to tourists from China and India who have been granted a 30-day visa-free stay in the country, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said on 27 November, Malay Mail reported.
With Malaysia’s visa liberalization plan coming into force on Dec 1, which includes 30-day visa-free travel for Chinese and Indian citizens, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government will strengthen and implement comprehensive control and law enforcement measures. agencies to avoid problems such as the country being “flooded” with illegal aliens.
He said the Ministry of Home Affairs, through the Immigration Department and the Police, will ensure security and public order in Malaysia by maintaining pre-screening of all tourists arriving in Malaysia, especially those with a criminal record or risk of terrorism.
“The Malaysian Immigration Department will set up a special team to monitor the departure of tourists from China and India. The follow-up will be carried out on the last date, that is, the 30th according to the period of stay in the country. Subsequently, this monitoring will be reported periodically as a control and enforcement mechanism.”said the head of the Malaysian Ministry of Home Affairs.
It added that airlines will be responsible for “verifying and ensuring that tourists entering Malaysia have a confirmed return ticket and confirmed hotel reservations throughout their stay in Malaysia.”
As a long-term measure, he said Malaysia would also review its Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Rules 1963 regarding compounding fees, fines and other penalties.
