All guidelines under which Malaysian schools will provide non-dual language learning programs have already been implemented and will now only be applied in practice, Malaysian Education Minister Fadalina Sidek said on November 27, Malay Mail reports.
He stressed that programs in languages other than English were necessary to preserve Bahasa Melayu as a national language. Currently, a large number of schools in Malaysia teach in English in all subjects.
“I would like to explain that the guidelines remain the same until now, we have never mentioned any changes.”he pointed.
“Next year we will launch a non-dual class to ensure the government’s commitment to preserving Bahasa Melayu as our national language.”Fadalina said.
The Education Minister also assured Parliament that there is no need to worry about English language proficiency as there are many programs and policies that strengthen the English language.
