Qatar, Egypt and the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas itself have confirmed the agreement to extend the cessation of hostilities for two more days. So far, the Israeli Government has not commented on the extension of the truce.
The Qatari authorities announced this Monday that Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) have again reached an agreement to extend the truce for another two days in the Gaza Strip.
The spokesman for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, Majed al Ansarihas indicated that “as part of the ongoing negotiation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce for two additional days” in Gaza, according to a message broadcast through his X account, formerly known as Twitter.
The Islamist group Hamas has also confirmed the extension of the truce. “The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announces that it has agreed with the brothers from Qatar and Egypt extend the temporary humanitarian truce for two more days under the same conditions as the previous truce,” the group reported in a statement released through Telegram.
Until now, the Israeli Government has not been pronounced on the extension of the truce.
The Egyptian Government – which is also acting as a mediator – has proposed a two-day extension in exchange for the release of 20 more hostages. These plans also contemplate the release of another ten hostages per day, while Israel would agree to hand over 30 Palestinian prisoners. The proportion of one hostage for every three prisoners that has marked the agreements between the parties from the beginning would therefore be maintained.
Aside from some minor inconveniences, both sides have so far respected the pact, which has seen the release of 58 hostages held captive in Gaza and 117 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
The fourth exchange is scheduled to take place this Monday and Israel has already announced that it received a list of the hostages who will be released today.
The 58 kidnapped people released by Hamas since Friday include 19 foreigners who are not part of the agreement.
