The two young children of a man with Portuguese nationality are among 11 hostages released this Monday by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, the Comunidade Israelita do Porto (CIP) said in a statement.
12-year-old Erez Calderon and 16-year-old Sahar Calderon, son and daughter respectively, were released because they have French citizenship, like their mother Hadas Dan, as can be read in the CIP note to which the Luza agency had access.
The young men are the children of Ofer Calderon, a 53-year-old Portuguese citizen who remains a Hamas hostage.
Also according to CIP, the young men’s maternal grandmother, Carmella Deng, was killed on October 7, the day of the Islamic group’s attack on Israel, which included the launch of more than 4,000 rockets and the infiltration of nearly 3,000 militants. about 1,200 people and kidnapped more than 240 in Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip.
The Lusa agency questioned the Portuguese Foreign Ministry, but it has not yet been possible to confirm the release of the young people.
French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed this Monday the release of three minors, including Erez and Sahar, as well as 12-year-old Eitan.
“Three of our young compatriots are among the group of hostages released this Monday. I am very happy about this news. We are mobilized for the release of all those abducted,” Macron emphasized on social networks.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), in addition to three young people with French citizenship, six Israelis of Argentinean citizenship and two more German citizens were released this Monday.
On Saturday, the Portuguese father’s two young children, 13-year-old Alma and 17-year-old Noam Or, were among 17 hostages released by Hamas.
Adina Moshe, a 72-year-old Portuguese-Israeli woman, was also released following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
The truce, which was initially agreed to last four days, was extended this Monday by two days, according to Qatari mediation.
Therefore, the humanitarian truce will continue on the same terms as the previous one until 7:00 am Thursday (5:00 am Lisbon).
Following the Hamas attack, Israeli air, naval and ground forces counterattacked the Palestinian enclave, where authorities in the Gaza Strip, controlled by Hamas since 2007, have killed more than 15,000 people, most of them children and women. It is estimated that more than seven thousand people disappeared under the rubble.
