Sri Lankan authorities have begun issuing free visas to Russian citizens, the republic’s government information department reported on November 28.
“A free visa regime is being introduced for citizens of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan””says the message.
The regime comes into force immediately after its publication and will last until March 31, 2024. However, citizens of these countries must apply for an electronic travel permit before arriving in the country.
Tourists can use a free 30-day visa. You are allowed to enter the country twice within this period.
Tourism and Lands Minister Harin Fernando said Sri Lankan authorities want to attract more tourists from these countries. They have set the goal of reaching five million tourists per year in the coming years.
According to the website of the Sri Lankan Embassy in Moscow, for Russian citizens the fee was 3,050 rubles if they applied for the visa through the embassy, $50 if they applied online or $60 if they applied for the visa on arrival. .
