Hamas reportedly handed the family over to the Islamic group the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), an organization considered terrorist by the United States and the European Union.
Let us recall that last week Israel and Hamas reached an agreement to suspend hostilities and release hostages taken by the Islamic group in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. The truce began last Friday at 7:00 am local time (5:00 am Lisbon time) and is expected to end this Monday.
The agreement was brokered by Qatar with the support of the United States, which played an important role. US President Joe Biden was in contact with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the weeks leading up to the signing of the agreement.
