Larger buses will again be able to enter the grounds of the Hospital Beatriz Angelo (HBA) in Loures from Friday, the city council of Odivelas, one of the municipalities served by the hospital unit, announced on Tuesday.
“Due to the efforts made by the mayors of Odivelas and Loures, Midi buses (large in size) will again visit the interior of the Beatriz Angelo Hospital from December 1st,” can be read in a note published by the Odivelas City Council.
The municipality, chaired by Hugo Martins (PS), explains that a cooperation protocol has been agreed between the local authorities, the governing body HBA and the Regional Health Directorate of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo with the aim of “restoring normal traffic on public roads.” vehicles inside hospital premises to facilitate access and movement of users.”
The decision to ban all buses from the HBA was contested by users of the hospital ward, who warned of access difficulties that could arise for people with limited mobility.
The Beatriz Angelo Hospital in Loures, Lisbon district, operated until January 19, 2022 under PPP mode, and until that time it was managed by the private group Luz Saúde.
The hospital unit is currently under public management based on the Public Profit Enterprise (EPE) model.
The hospital department opened in January 2012 and serves 278 thousand residents of the municipalities of Loures, Odivelas, Mafra and Sobral de Monte Agrazo, located in the Lisbon district.
