A 40-year-old man was arrested in Madeira on suspicion of attempted murder and arson in the city, the Judicial Police (PJ) said on Wednesday.
In its statement, the SP indicates that the arrest took place in accordance with a warrant issued by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) of Funchal.
The 40-year-old man is “suspected of committing crimes of qualified murder in the attempt, the victims of which were a man and a woman aged 26 and 18 years respectively, as well as the crime of arson in the city.” , the note says.
According to the SP, the events took place on the afternoon of November 12 in an empty house located in the city of Funchal, “wherein the alleged perpetrator, for vain reasons, using direct flame, set fire to several rooms in this house, having previously closed the space where the victims were located so that make it difficult for them to leave this place.”
The Judicial Police adds that “the rapid intervention of firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to other adjacent residential buildings, allowing the victims to be rescued in a timely manner and immediately transported to the Funchal Central Hospital, where they received adequate treatment due to the smoke.” inhalation”.
The detainee will now be brought before the competent judicial authorities to apply such coercive measures as he deems appropriate.
