Livre’s sole deputy praised this Wednesday the measures that the party managed to achieve approval in the 2024 state budget and stressed that there could be more if the party elects a parliamentary group in March with confidence.
“There are victories here that are fair because Livre presented them and won them, which means it is worth voting to abstain from this budget. And we could achieve even more if we had not just one deputy in this Assembly of the Republic, but more deputies like us, because we know that on March 10 our citizens will trust us,” he said.
Rui Tavares spoke at the end of the debate on the government’s proposal for the state budget for 2024 (OE2024), which guaranteed approval by an absolute majority of the Parliamentary Party, in a vote in which the Livre deputy would abstain.
In his speech, the deputy highlighted some of the party’s “achievements” that have been enshrined in the budget since the creation of the legislature, such as the provision of unemployment benefits to victims of domestic violence – recently announced by the President of the Republic – or the four-day working week.
