The majority of deputies of the Bulgarian parliamentary committee on agriculture opposed the possibility of selling land from the state land fund, Bulgarian National Radio reports on November 29.
Numerous agricultural and environmental organizations also sent categorically negative opinions against the sale of state lands to the commission.
The sale of land from the state land fund, included in the medium-term budget planned for 2025, is included as a legal option and is not planned to be preceded by a public debate, explained the president of the commission, Desislava Taneva: “The position expressed by the ministry is categorically in favor of not accepting such a sale. “I cannot answer the question whether this medium-term forecast is subject to adjustment.”.
Agriculture Minister Kiril Vatev was optimistic and stated that the planned sale of a fifth of the state land fund is just a forecast: “The most consistent quality of a forecast is that it will never happen and will always be rejected.”.
Natalya Shukadareva of the Association of Grain Producers said that the organization is against including income from the sale of land from the State Land Fund in the budget.
The Association of Agricultural Landowners is the only organization that supported the intention of the Minister of Finance. Miroslav Karakashev recalled that the State Land Fund was created when many years ago the state forcibly took away people’s land and gave them compensation coupons, and that people expect justice.
