Toshiba Corporation created the prototype of a new compact lithium battery, which charges up to 80% in five minutes, the company’s press service reported.
“In testing, the battery showed high voltage of 3V or more, fast charging to 80% of its capacity in five minutes, high durability, allowing it to maintain 80% or more of the original battery capacity after of 6000 charge/discharge cycles”.says the message.
The company emphasized that they did not use cobalt in the creation of the prototype, as there were interruptions in its supply, and also reduced the amount of expensive nickel, using instead “high potential class 5V cathode material”.
The new material is reported to have significantly fewer gases from adverse reactions that reduce performance.
The company will continue working on the prototype and plans to create a commercial model by 2028. The new type of battery will be in demand in industrial equipment where space and high performance are required. The corporation also plans to produce batteries for electric vehicles.
Recall that in November the governments of Indonesia and Australia signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of automobile production. It is planned that the union will allow them to achieve a key position in this sector, since the countries have reserves of the necessary minerals and the necessary production capacities.
